Jennie Husak Olywa Obituary

Jennie Husak Olywa, 91, of Liverpool, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on January 27, 2020 at Iroquois Nursing Home. Jennie was born in Berlyn, Ukraine. During WW II Jennie was forced with her family to leave their home and were relocated to a displaced camp where she met and married her husband Petro. She emigrated to the U.S. and settled in the Syracuse area. She retired from Niagara Mohawk in 1988 where she worked in maintenance for 30 years. She was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, was a member of the Apostleship of Prayer and the Ukrainian National Home. She loved baking & gardening and enjoyed entertaining and spending time with her family and friends.

She was predeceased by her husband Petro, her brother William and her niece Natalie.

She is survived by her sister in law Irene Husak, niece & nephew MaryAnn and Andrij Husak; great niece and nephew Nicholas & Sophie Husak.

She was also survived by her beloved cat & companion "Tiger".

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday at 10:00 AM in the St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church. Jennie will be laid to rest in the St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4-7 PM at the Macko- Vassallo Funeral Home, 1609 W. Genesee St. The Apostleship of Prayer will recite the Rosary at 4:30 PM and the Panakhyda Service will be held at 6:00 PM Friday at the funeral home.
