Please share a memory of Clara to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Clara Ines Gonzalez, 91, of Jamesville, died peacefully Thursday August 8, 2019 at Francis House minutes after receiving last rites. She suffered from pulmonary fibrosis. She was born in Bogota, Colombia, one of 10 children of Alfonso Gonzalez and Concepcion Quintana de Gonzalez. She emigrated to the United States in 1964, settling in New York City. She worked at Delta Inc., a high end interior decoration company in Manhattan, for 31 years. During that time, Ines made curtains for many celebrities, including Barbara Streisand and the Vanderbilt family. However, Ines was happiest spending time with and making curtains for her extended family. While she never married, she was the second mother to her dozens of nieces and nephews and a beloved great-aunt to their children. Ines retired in 1993 and moved to Syracuse in 1997 with her sister Stella to live near her other two sisters, Lilia and Dolores (Lola). She loved to travel and enjoyed a trip to Italy with Lilia and her husband, Nicholas Welych. Her favorite trip was to New York City several years ago to see Pope Francis after she won tickets from the Catholic Diocese. Following the death of Stella and the husbands of Lola and Lilia, the three moved to The Nottingham where they lived together in one of the cottages for nine years. They were known as The Three Sisters and they did everything together, including bingo, corn hole, and Wii bowling, Ines and Lilia were the Wii bowling champions at Loretto Tournaments. Ines is predeceased by her parents, brother Alfonso and Jose Domingo, and sisters Stella and Lola. She is survived by her sister Lilia Welych & Esperanza Santacruz; her sister-in-law Elvira Gonzalez; numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews; and numerous friends at The Nottingham. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday August 13th at 10:00 AM in the All Saints Church, 1340 Lancaster Avenue, Syracuse. Ines will be laid to rest in the St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Monday from 3-6 PM at the Macko-Vassallo Funeral Home, 1609 W. Genesee St. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Francis House, 108 Michaels Ave. Syracuse 13208, or to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, P.O.
