Obituary of Dorothy Kantor

Dorothy Kantor Decemeber 25, 2024 Dorothy Kantor, 84, of LaFayette, NY, passed away December 25, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. Dorothy was born on June 22, 1940, in Simpson, Pennsylvania, to the late John and Mary Chupeck. In 1961 she graduated from Scranton State School of Nursing and in that year began her nursing and management career at Crouse Hospital. She devoted 40 years of service to Crouse. She enjoyed working in nursing until age 78. Dorothy enjoyed a full, active, productive and happy life until stricken with a recent illness. Her Orthodox Christian faith was the center of her life, and the driving force behind her genuine love and care for people. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 51 years, Walter Kantor, in 2015; her two brothers, Archpriest John J. Chupeck, and Archpriest Joseph T. Chupeck; brothers-in-law, Priest John J. Govrusik and Dennis Somple. She is survived by her daughter, Tanya Fletcher; son, Priest Vladimir/Walter John Kantor, MD (Loni); her beloved grandchildren, Adam, Elena, and Vladimir Kantor; sisters, Pauline Somple and Irene Govrusik; sisters-in-law, Ellen Chupeck and Ruth Kantor; and several nieces, nephews, and godchildren. Calling hours for Dorothy will be held Sunday, December 29, 2024 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Ss. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church, 401 Hamilton St., Syracuse, NY, 13204. The Panakhyda Services will be held at 4:00 pm Sunday at the church. The funeral service will take place at the church on Monday, December 30, at 9:00am. Burial will follow at St. Tikhon's Monastery, South Canaan, PA.
