Lydia S. Carney Obituary

Lydia S. Carney (Yarko), 79, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side on Monday, November 25, 2024 at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, NY. Lydia, of Ukrainian descent, emigrated from Germany to the United States as a young girl and grew up in Auburn, NY. She graduated with her Masters in Elementary Education from SUNY Brockport and taught third grade at Bear Road Elementary in the North Syracuse Central School District for 38 years. During her retirement, Lydia enjoyed caring for her gardens and houseplants, bird watching, watching her favorite TV shows while enjoying a cocktail, and most of all she loved spending time with her two grandsons. Lydia will be remembered as a caring and very giving person. Lydia was predeceased by her husband Edwin Carney, her parents Nicholas and Helen Yarko, and her brother Anatole Yarko. She is survived by her daughter Laura (Doug) Jackson and her grandsons Cameron and Damien Jackson. Lydia's family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at Upstate University Hospital for their compassionate care during a difficult time. No services will be held per the family's request.
