Obituary of Sharon L. Brush

Please share a memory of Sharon to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Sharon Brush September 1, 2024 Sharon Lee Brush, (nee Lydon), passed away peacefully on September 1st, 2024, in Rochester New York, after a long battle with Lewy Body Disease. She was surrounded by her loving family and the compassionate care of the Highland Hospital Hospice team. Sharon was born in Syracuse, New York on May 24th, 1940, to Jennie Lydon (Bonner) and William Lydon. She was 84 years old. Sharon was raised in Syracuse and received the proper Irish Catholic Education that only a city including Tipperary Hill could deliver. Her father passed away when she was seven and her mother remarried Melvin Strate. In 1961, Sharon married Theodore (Ted) Brush, and they had three children, William and the twins, Donald and Marie. Boomer and Gen-X kids in the Syracuse City School District will remember her as the "Lunch Lady". The Greatest Generation will remember her tending bar or simply socializing at various west side and city organizations like The Fraternal Order of Eagles, Tipperary Hill American Legion, and Polish Home. Sharon loved watching her Soaps, The Buffalo Bills, Syracuse Basketball, and would often stay up late watching Horror Films! Sharon also enjoyed bowling and camping but most of all, she loved to cook. No family event was complete without her famous macaroni salad in the largest Tupperware bowl available. She made the best comfort foods that included Irish stew, meatloaf, goulash, hot breakfasts of eggs and sausage, and if you asked nicely, liver and onions. Sharon also made her weekly batch of brownies which rarely got cold enough to be put away. Her sweet tooth came in handy from time to time because she could always be cheered up (or bribed when necessary) with Normant's Saltwater Taffy or Half-Moon Cookies from Harrison Bakery. When Ted passed away in 2000, Sharon moved to Rochester to live with her daughter and family. Sharon was predeceased by her husband, Theodore (Ted) Brush, her parents, Jennie Strate and William Lydon, and a brother William Lydon Jr. She is survived by her three children, William (Sarah) Brush, Donald (Sandra) Brush and Marie (Ben) Gibson, as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Calling Hours will be held Friday, September 6, 2024 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at Macko-Vassallo Funeral Home, 1609 W. Genesee St., Syracuse, NY with a funeral service to follow. Burial will be at the Myrtle Hill Cemetery, Syracuse, NY.
