Steven Szpiczka Obituary

Steven Szpiczka, 83, of Tipperary Hill, passed away Monday January 15, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Steven was born in Brody, Ukraine on October 2, 1940. After being freed from the labor camps of Germany, he immigrated to Syracuse in 1951. Steven was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Vietnam war. He retired from Fisher Guide Division of General Motors in 1993 where he worked for 30 years as a machinist, a member of U.A.W. Local 854, loved music, raising Homing Pigeons, attending the NYS Fair, and spending time with his loving family. He was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church.


He was predeceased by his parents Jurij & Kataryna Szpiczka.


He is survived by his wife of 58 years Barbara (Rubadeau) Szpiczka, his children; Maria (Frank) Onoff of Onondaga Hill, Donna (Robert) Schweitzer of Marcellus, Stephan Szpiczka of Marcellus, Esther (Bruce) Wanlass of LaFayette, Philip (Jasmin) Szpiczka of Baldwinsville, Anna Szpiczka (Gregory Fisher) of Syracuse. His brother Vladymier (Klara) Szpiczka and sister Anna Fredrick both of North Port, FL..

He is also survived by 15 grandchildren & 15 great grandchildren an several nieces & nephews


Calling hours will be held Friday January 19, 2024 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Macko-Vassallo Funeral Home, 1609 W. Genesee St., Syracuse, NY 13204. A Panakhyda service will be conducted 6:00 pm Friday evening at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Saturday January 20, 2024 at 10:00 am in St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, 207 Tompkins St., Syracuse. Steven will be laid to rest in the St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery.
