Obituary of Jeannette Kianka

Please share a memory of Jeannette to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jeannette Kianka passed away peacefully at Elderwood Nursing home in Liverpool on December 22, 2022. A lifelong resident of Tipperary Hill, she attended Tompkins school and then Central High school graduating in the early 50's. She was a former member of the Onondaga Ski Club and a leader of the local Bonsai Club. Helping others was important to Jeannette and she was a frequent blood donor. She also petitioned and was successful in getting an enclosed bus stop installed on the corner of Tompkins and Burnett Park Drive. Although she lived all of her life on Tipperary Hill, she was an avid traveler visiting Australia, Africa, and many countries in Europe. Jeannette worked as a paralegal secretary in downtown Syracuse in the University building since the mid 80's. She instilled in her nieces and nephews the many Ukrainian traditions her parents, Mike and Mary, passed on to her. Jeannette was everyone's "favorite aunt", and due to a young nephew's inability to pronounce "Aunt Jeannette", she was known in some circles only as "Annie". She will be greatly missed by family, friends and neighbors. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at the Macko-Vassallo funeral home, 1609 West Genesee Street Syracuse, NY 13204. In lieu of flowers either blood or monetary donations can be sent to American Red Cross P.O. box 97089 Washington D.C. 20090-7089 in memory of Jeanette Kianka for the local Red Cross. 1-800-435-7669
