Obituary of Christina Rosemarie Huegerich

On Sunday October 28, 2018 after a long and courageous battle, the gates of heaven opened calling Christina (Christa) Rosemarie (Swiencicky) Huegerich, 63, home to the Lord, with her devoted loving husband Heinrich ever vigilant at her side. Christina was a lifelong resident of Syracuse and a 1973 graduate of West Genesee High School. Her college years began at Onondaga Community College, where she graduated with a degree in Dental Hygiene. She later pursed her dreams, receiving a Teaching Certificate and graduating Magna Cum Laude from SUNY Brockport, followed by a Masters Degree from SUNY Cortland. While attending college Christa worked at Dey Brothers. She began her teaching career at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Elementary School. She later transitioned to Onondaga County Department of Health where she worked first in the Dental Bureau, later retiring as a Public Health Educator with the Lead Program. Christa met the man of her dreams and the love of her life, Heinrich , 35 years ago in Altenkunstadt, Germany. They were married for 33 years and shared a love that is eternal. She was a lifetime member of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, where she volunteered countless hours. She also devoted many hours to her family and community. Christa loved to bake. Her greatly anticipated annual Christmas cookies gala will be heartily missed. She was always the first to lend a helping hand. Her kindness and generosity inspired us all. She was predeceased by her parents Hryhory & Margareta Swiencicky SURVIVORS: Her loving Husband Heinrich and and Sisters Irka (Greg West) and Maria. Her Nephew Max Ferran; and several cousins in Germany, Ukraine, Belgium and France. SERVICES: Funeral services will be conducted Friday 9:15 AM from the Macko-Vassallo Funeral Home and 10:00 AM in the St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church. Christa will be laid to rest in the St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Thursday 4-7 Pm at the funeral home 1609 W. Genesee St. The Panakhyda Service will be held at 6:30 PM Thursday evening at the funeral home. CONTRIBUTIONS: May be made to the St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church.
