Obituary of Lola Bordun

Lola Dolores Gonzalez Bordun, 93, of The Nottingham, passed away peacefully Friday October 26, 2018 at Crouse Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Bordun was born in Bogata, Colombia. In the mid 1950's she migrated to NYC with her family. Through a mutual friend of theirs in Syracuse she met her future husband Wasyl and they were married for fifty years. After raising their children in NYC they retired to Syracuse in 1996. Lola has lived in Syracuse for 22 years with her sisters. During her retirement years she enjoyed traveling to her homeland as well as Europe with her husband and family members. She was a calming and constant presence in her families lives. Lola was a joy to be around and brought smiles to others with her subtle wit. She was a devout Catholic and was content with a simple life of faith, hope and charity. She volunteered at church events and assisted in preparing traditional Ukrainian Foods. At the Nottingham she made many wonderful friends, she enjoyed knitting for the Knit-Wits Club, sang in the community choir with her sisters, and loved playing Bingo. She retired as a Cost Analyst for Apple Tree Fashions in the garment district of NYC where she was also an excellent seamstress. She attended St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church and All Saints Church. Lola was loved by all and will be greatly missed. She was predeceased by her husband Wasyl Bordun and her sister Stella Gonzalez who died in 2009; also two brothers; Alfonso and Jose Domingo.

3-Sisters; Ines Gonzalez; Lilia Welych; and Esperanza Santacruz of Colombia
4-Grandchildren; Joseph, Cristina, TJ and Madeline

SERVICES: Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday 9:00 AM from the Macko-Vassallo Funeral Home and 10:00 AM in the All Saints Church, 1340 Lancaster Avenue. Mrs. Bordun will be laid
to rest in the St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Monday 2-5 PM at the funeral home 1609 West Genesee St.
