Peter W. McElvein

Peter W. McElvein, 76, of Syracuse, passed away Friday, January 30, 2026 at Upstate University Hospital. Pete was born in Buffalo, NY and has lived in the Syracuse area for many years. In 1971 Pete earned his Bachelor's Degree from Syracuse University, then in 1984 he went on to earn his Master's Degree. He worked in local radio and television for many years. In radio he worked as a disc jockey and radio personality for WHEN where he was well known as "Pete McKay". He also worked for FOX 68 Television and was a Program Director for WCNY- FM Radio. From 1989-2019 he produced a television show called "Tradition Today". He was a member of Ss. Peter & Paul Orthodox Church where he served as a Tonsured Reader for the church.

He is survived by 3-brothers, Paul (Rosemary) McElvein, of Derby, NY, Jack (Angela) McElvein, of Florida, David McElvein, of Dayton, OH, 2-Godsons, Matthew Johnson, Domenik Ephraim Haymes, and several nieces & nephews.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday, February 3, 2026 from 5:00-7:00 pm at the Ss. Peter & Paul Orthodox Church, 401 Hamilton Street, Syracuse, 13204. Panakhyda Services will follow at 7:00 pm at the church. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:00 am in the church. Burial will be held in the spring at the Ss. Peter & Paul Orthodox Cemetery
