Kalina Woloszyn passed away on February 1st, 2022 . She celebrated her 100th birthday on December 2nd, 2021 with her family, residents, and staff of the Grand Rehabilitation Center with a special visit from the mayor of Rome, NY.
Born in Roszyn Malyj, Ukraine, she was one of six sisters. After WW2, she spent several years in German work camps where she met her husband and love, Ivan. They settled in France for several years before immigrating to Syracuse, NY joining her 2 sisters and their families in 1956.
She was very proud of both her Ukrainian heritage and of her U.S. citizenship. She was a good Ukrainian and also a proud U.S. citizen. She was an active parishioner of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church. Kalina had several jobs in her lifetime and finally retiring from Hutchings Medical center. She and her husband, Ivan were able to visit Ukraine a few times to visit relatives. Though never having children of her own, she never dwelled on it. Kalina loved life supremely and she always took life in stride in bad times and good times. Kalina was a friend to everyone in her neighborhood, always giving of her time and her baked goods.
Predeceased by her loving husband, Ivan Woloszyn, sisters Katherine (Michael) Hrechko, Paraska (Dmytro) Wynarczyk. She is survived by her nieces & nephews John (Jackie) Wynarczyk, George Wynarczyk, Mary & (Jim) Suflita, Ray & Danny Hrechko. Great nieces & nephews Kelly, John, Becky, Nadine, George, Laura, Natalie, Nicholas, Mary, & Anna. Great great nephews Leo & Oliver. Always an inspiration to many for her fortitude and happy outlook on life. Kalina (Chocha) you will be sorely missed.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday February 8, 2022 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the Macko-Vassallo Funeral Home, 1609 W. Genesee St. The Panakhyda service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday at the funeral home followed by the Funeral services to be held in the St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church. Kalina will be laid to rest in the St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery.
